Montfort School, Abhayapuri, was established in the year 2005 by the 'Institute of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel', a registered Religious Society totally engaged in the field of education.

The Society was founded in France, in 1700 by St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort, to teach and take care of the children in Charitable Schools. He was born on 31st January 1673, in a hamlet called "Montfort" in western France. He was a visionary and deeply convinced of the incredible impact education can play in forming a better world. Being a friend of the youth and the less privileged of his society he deliberately dedicated his entire life for their well being.

His ardent desire to keep his vision alive and continue the mission, he realized the need to gather young men who can work ceaselessly for God and for man. Thus the society of The Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel was founded by him to continue his educational works. The Brothers Championing the cause and carry out the same mission by keeping his vision always alive and totally relevant to the times. He tirelessly worked for a cause with a vision and a mission to be fulfilled and as a result he died at the young age of 43 on 28th April 1716. As a recognition of the remarkable and generous service he rendered for God and for his fellow being , he was canonized as a saint in the Catholic Church by His Holiness Pope Leo X on 7th July 1947. We, The Montfort Brothers, deliberately chosen and dedicate our lives and pledge our support to keep that vision alive and relevant, presently work in more than 30 countries in the world especially in the field of Education.
